On July 29th, 2020 Union Cabinet of India approved the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 paving the way for a holistic education system based not only on rot learning but overall development of the child. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, implemented in India, along with the school education structure, has also significantly changed the higher education sector. Aimed at transforming the existing education system, NEP 2020 focuses on holistic development, interdisciplinary learning, skill enhancement, and promoting innovation and research. Here are some key changes brought in by NEP 2020 in higher education:
Flexibility in Undergraduate Education
NEP 2020 emphasizes a flexible and multidisciplinary approach to undergraduate education. Students now have the freedom to choose subjects from different streams and create their own customized learning paths. The previously followed system of a fixed grouping of subjects will be discontinued in the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which will enable students to choose science and arts subjects together.
